This isn't a book that you read to enjoy. This isn't something that you read and forget about or something that won’t affect you. This book reminded me of a time when I was little and my mother made me watch a 20/20 special about e pills. To this day I'm nervous when I say I have a headache and someone offers me medication. I felt like if I was a younger person who had thought about living the street life this book would have scared me straight. That's the takeaway I got from this book. I have no idea if it's a true story or if the author just wanted to show a world that he felt needed to be seen.
When I first started reading I was so heartbroken for the David. The author does not lead the readers into the the heartbreak and pain slowly it's there from the first page. It sets the tone of the book but Death Of A Boy is so much more than the story of a little boy that lives a hard life. There is so much going on and I will admit that there were times that I had to reread parts because the information overload would kick in. However the more I read the more that everything from characters to events would start to start to line up.
I gave this book 4 out of 5 starts. I'm not really sure who I would recommend this book to because for me it's one of the reads that you have to love the street life to fully understand it. I will say that it was well written, the attention to detail was amazing and the storyline seemed thought out and well connected.
