Hey everyone, thanks to Goodreads and with today being the last day of year it's the perfect time to bring you some of my favorite reads of 2016. This was a trying year for me the first in a long time that I did not complete my Goodreads Reading Challenge. Even though I only read 48 books I discovered a few series that are note worthy as well as some stand alones that I'm excited to share them with you all.
Striking Back Series by S.M. Shade: This series consists of 4 books about 3 brothers. Book 1 and 2 are about the same brother Mason with the first ending in a cliffhanger. I have made it pretty clear that I hate books that have cliffhangers but this one was worth it. Mostly because book 2 starts off right where book 1 ended and if I remember correctly I didn't have to wait to read it. Book 3 is about Parker and I'll be honest and say that this one starts off a little slow for me. Mostly because the first two books did such a fantastic job providing an outline of the characters and providing a great background of the brothers that I felt like I already knew what was being detailed. I say detailed because it wasn't a copy and paste type of book as much as it was added details and preception to events from Parker. It does get better. A lot better and Parker stands his own next to Mason. The last book is about brother Alex and I have a super soft spot for Alex even though like his brothers he can handle his own. Alex goes through a lot in this book but it just make everything so much more enjoyable to read. As a whole I give the series 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who likes to read romance with a little bit of edge. Did I meantion that the brothers are professional fighters. These are emotional reads that deal with some heavy things but the author does a great job adding pleasure to replace the pain. This is an adult read.
Secrets and Lies Series by M.M Koenig: Okay so once again I am about to go on and on about books that end in cliffhangers. All 3 books in this series are about the same people which means books 1 and 2 end in cliffhangers. With that being said I still loved them. What made these books so good was the fact that they were intense. When I finished one I felt compelled to know what was going to happen. These are not nice and neat books there is drama heartache, pain and lots and lots of heat but there are also some of the sweetest moments added in. Book 3 really made this series for me it made the title of the series make so much sense. Still you need to go through the first two to get the full understanding of me saying this series ends with a bang. I give this series as a whole 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone that is willing to invest in a read.
Under His Command by Kristine Cayne: This is a series however I have only read this one. This is a complete book though so I'm counting it as a fabulous stand-a-lone for the purpose of this blog post. I loved this book because it seemed so real. A marriage where both parties wanted the other to be happy and not realizing that what they really needed was to be honest with what they wanted and needed. I loved Jamie. He was everything and then some. Oh and the blue fire scene was such a great scene. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone that likes things that have zero concept for the boxes that things are supposed to be placed in. This an adult read.
The Journey Of Ruthie Belle By Imani Wisdom: I know that I have already discussed this book with you all on my blog but there is no way that I could do a recap of the best books I read this year and not mention Mrs. Ruthie. This book has everything in it to make it a great read. It starts and ends with details that make you feel like you are witnessing something not just reading it. It's a power packing book that isn't rushed or filled with words that aren't needed. I felt this book and give it 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book to everyone. This book is about Mrs. Ruthie, her pain and her healing.
While I have read lots of great books these are the ones that really stood out in my mind. You can click on the pictures of the books to be taken to the amazon purchase page. May this new year bring forth more amazing reads for us to share together!!!!!
