Hey everyone it's the last day of January and I'm ending the New Year New Author January post with a bang. Today I have with us Author K K Harris who has been publishing since 2011. K. K. Harris may not be so new but she is a new author to me and I could not pass up the chance to introduce or reintroduce her to my readers. I am including her in the January post because it's never to late to become someone's new author of choice.
Priscilla Danita: Thank you for visiting with us today. Can you tell us what pushed you into writing?
My very active imagination is what pushed me into writing. That along with my husband growing tired of me complaining of all that I felt was wrong with whatever I was reading and what I would make different. It came from him asking me, ‘how was your book, and mt reply would turn into a grade A essay. I always enjoyed reading since elementary but there has always been constant stories flowing around in my head. The small nudge from DH and knowing he fully believed in me was all it took to put motion to the notion in my head.
Priscilla Danita: How many books have you published since you started your writing career? Since I started writing in 2011, I have self-published eleven books.
Priscilla Danita: You have lots of books under your belt which one of your stories do you contact the most to personally and why?
Out of all of my books, I connect the most with my very first story. ‘Love Drug,’, it is and I fear will always be my first love seriously. Maybe it’s because it’s my first baby.
Priscilla Danita: What changes have you developed since your first and last books published?
My writing style has changed drastically. The first book I wrote in first person even against all the research I found on it not being acceptable. Mind you, this was 2011 and I was just getting my feet wet. Since my first series, I started to write in third person. I feel my vocabulary has broadened a bit, I tend to over analyze certain parts though. My skin has gotten a bit thicker
since the beginning, now I tend to let the bad reviews roll off because I realized I can’t please everyone nor do I desire to. Anymore… Lol
Priscilla Danita: Those are great skills to have acquired. I can see how they can help in your field. What book would you recommend to new readers to get the feel of K K Harris as an author?
I hate to be cryptic but I have to get a feel for the reader to be sure I point them in the right direction. If you like it rough, raw, with the urban flare start off with ‘Love Drug’ and the rest of the crew series. Into paranormal/twilight type of stories, ‘KING’ is the series for you with an extra special level of Idris as the dessert. Prefer a bit more romance, drama, and all the happily ever afters, start with ‘Vows of Deception.’
Priscilla Danita: Last question, what is one thing that you would like readers to know about?
I am truly eccentric, different, difficult, and cynical type of writer. I love myself, those around me, and everything I put my full 100% too. I write because I love it and my mind tends to go into overload if I can’t get thoughts out. Some of my stories may seem a bit real and close to the heart, tends to tug on the heartstrings because I write from the heart. I write from life
experiences with added creativity to spice things up a bit. Wife, mother, business owner, graphic designer, preacher’s wife (shhh secret, lol), choir director, praise dance coordinator, missionary, Christian, friend, sister, cousin, daughter, avid reader, author… With all the titles that could describe me, I identify myself as none other than Kanika; none of the above titles mean a thing if I am not genuinely myself and comfortable in my skin at all times.
Priscilla Danita: Thank you so much for your time. I wish you nothing but happiness and continued success!
