I loved Sam's character. This wasn't a long read, however in under 200 pages the author was able to provide the main character with a back story, and a present that keep me completely engaged. The supporting characters while weren't written with so much depth served a purpose and added to the story. The title sets you up for some type of pain but I what wasn't prepared for such an emotional read from something that starts off so over the top. I loved that the while there is a lot of heavy emotional issues going on there is also some fun and that helped me as a reader not feel so weighed down. There are also some quotable moments that give you something to think about regardless of your take on the lifestyle. I got caught up in what I was reading and felt for the characters as they were going through it. At first I thought I was going to hate Sam but there are people in this book that make what I though was bad seem like nothing. Its a sad day that we live in times that things like this really happen to people. I think this book was important because it shreds light on an important issue.
I give this book 4 stars because there were times when I felt fed up with the way the main character was acting. Although I will agree that it played into the character perfectly. I would recommend this book to anyone that is open minded and looking for a quick emotional read. As I stated above this is a GLBT read however there are issues in this story that anyone could be dealing with and in a way this book can push someone hurting to take a positive step at healing.
